— 40 Years Ago

Richard Beaver, a Pea Ridge dairy farmer and current president of the Pea Ridge School Board, filed for re-election, bringing the number seeking the post on the local board to three.

Two more trophies were added to the Pea Ridge Blackhawks’ trophy case by the junior boys. Members of the team included: Stanley Beeson, Greg Mayfield, Mike Boles, Lonnie Clayton, Johnny Bone, Dale Gonce, Noble Tyler, Chuck Hokeah, Brent Taylor, Doug Heim, Patrick Hankins, Mike Myers and Mike Gonce.

Four candidates filed for election to two seats open on the Pea Ridge School Board.

They were: Ron Foster, Kent Webb, Mark Easterling and Wayne Hileman.

Two of the latest additions to the faculty at Pea Ridge elementary school were Judy Green and Lisa Bruns.

20 Years Ago

The Pea Ridge City Council took action that changedthe duties and titles of city employees. Dave Peterson was appointed equipment and street supervisor; Ron David, wastewater superintendent, and Floyd Blackwell, water superintendent.

A winter reading campaign was being launched by Pea Ridge Elementary School.

The Lady Blackhawks captured the tournament title at the Southwest Tournament in Washburn. The 52-51 victory over Cassville was sealed with six seconds left when sophomore Denise Patterson hit a 3-pointer.

Residents in Little Flock voted to reject a 1-percent salesand use tax for city streets and roads.

John Burkett, Pea Ridge city recorder, was sworn into office by County Clerk Mary Lou Slinkard.

Pea Ridge high school freshman Dianne Miller received plaques for her AA All-star cross country selection and second-place finish at the state AA cross country meet from high school principal Gary Wayman.
