School board candidates at Pea Ridge included Royle Carnes and Mrs.

James (Carrie) Wright.

The Pea Ridge junior Blackhawks won second place in the Elkins tournament. Two of the team members, Gary Brown and John Brown, were listed on the all-tournament team.

Pea Ridge city officials took the oath of office at a regularly scheduled monthly council meeting.

Administering the oath was Pea Ridge Justice Judge P.R. McLaughlin. He swore into office Mayor Jack Musteen; aldermen Lee Otis Hall, Jerry Wilkerson, Daryle Greene and Dean Messer; and city recorder Fred McKinney.

A break-in at the Garfield school was discovered by school janitor Emery Baily. Missing from the kitchen were food items including frozen meat, ice cream and loaves of bread. Mrs. Ola Cline recalled that in the 21 years she had been the school cook, this was the first day the lunchroom had ever come up short of supplies.

Ron Foster and Kent Webb filed for Pea Ridge School Board.

Stockholders for the Pea Ridge Bank elected Jim C.

Walton, chairman of the board; Rick E. Buck, president; Paul C. Galyean, vice president; Maurice Easterling, vice president and director of auditing; Barbara J. Owen, cashier; Connie Best, assistant auditor;

and Valerie Ash, assistant cashier. Rick Pifer was elected security officer.

The bank reported total assets of $11,756,655.02 at the close of business Dec.

31, 1980.

The Blackhawk varsity basketball team, led by Mark Howell and Roger Davis in scoring, whipped the Decatur Bulldogs 65-56.

Any basketball team is just as good as its bench strength according to coach Jim Roe. Off the bench for Pea Ridge were Doyle McBurnett, Danny Stroud, Kirby Morrison and Steve Clark.

Area finally thaws. Most of the five inches of sleet that fell nearly three weeks ago has melted. Pea Ridge Police Chief Sam Holcomb said that there were no traffic accidents within the city limits during the period when streets were icy.

Kevin and Martha Drewes bought the Holiday Hills Motel east of Gateway on U.S. Highway 62 from John and Virginia Kopecky.

Pea Ridge Lady Blackhawk Denise Patterson scored 30 points in the last two ball games and made six 3-pointers, according to coach Larry Walker.

When it comes to finding a Pea Ridge Blackhawkfan, none come any truer than long-time Pea Ridge High School teacher and public address announcer Jim Cheek. For 22 years Cheek has been announcing all of the Blackhawks football and basketball home games.

Workers placed a sign in front of the new Fred’s store, which is going into the old Montgomery’s IGA building on North Curtis Avenue.

Mary Lou Slinkard administered the oath of office to the 2001 Garfield city officials: Merlene Snoderly, city recorder/ treasurer; and aldermen Maurettia Sprague, Betty Seamster, Eugene Nowak, Laura Hamilton and Donna Bird.
