Lift up the pet’s lips on a regular basis to evaluate gums for swelling (gingivitis) and excessive tartar on teeth. If checking out a pet’s teeth is uncomfortable for owners, be sure to have a veterinarian look at the pet’s mouth during a physical exam.
Some pets require a dental cleaning. It is always best do have a professional cleaning done sooner rather then later. If dental disease is left untreated, it can lead to infection, dental extractions and can even damage the heart, liver and kidneys.
