Humphrey awarded for writing

— Disney Humphrey, an eighth-grader at Pea Ridge Middle School, was awarded the 2011 Youth Challenger Award by AGATE (Association of Gifted and Talented Educators). The Youth Challenger Award is given to honor and recognize a student in grades 7-12 who risked taking an unusual, creative, different and innovative step in a direction most people would not even think to consider.

Only one award may be presented each year.

Disney was honored for writing her recently published book, “Meeting the General,” which is part of a proposed “Tales of 9-11 Runaways” series. The award ceremony was held during a luncheon which also featured a speech by Governor Mike Beebe, at the PeabodyHotel in Little Rock.

Disney is in the Pea Ridge Gifted and Talented Program (SEEK). After the luncheon, Disney held a book signing.
