Lady ’Hawks lose to Pioneers

— The Pea Ridge Lady ’Hawks lost to the Gentry Lady Pioneers on Tuesday, Jan. 25. This was not the first time the two teams had seen each other with a game early on in the conference season resulting in a loss for Pea Ridge. First quarter shaped into an evenly matched game with Pea Ridge’s Jordan Winn hitting several field goals and Jones, from Gentry, hitting multiply free throws.

The quarter ended with a tied score of 11-11.

Coming out into second quarter, Pea Ridge did a better job of getting to shoot free throws, but continued to let Gentry see too much of the line. This resulted in a half-time score of 24-26 Gentry.

Although first half ended with a 2-point difference, the third ended with a 17-point deficit. The Lady’Hawks went on a dry run offensively only scoring 7 points. This would not have been that big of a disadvantage, but Gentry found a 3-point hot spot. Gentry’s Millsap hit a total of five 3s, three of which came in the third quarter. This left the score at 31-48 Gentry.

Fourth quarter, however, proved to be a different game. Pea Ridge’s Hannah Hargiss hit multiple free throws and a 3 accompanied by Winn who had field goals and free throws alike.

For Gentry, Millsap continued to score, but only managed to hit one 3. When there were few minutes left in the game and the score was at a 10-point difference, Pea Ridge started to foul which resulted in Deborah Beard and Hargiss fouling out.

Pea Ridge managed to out score Gentry in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to pull out a victory. Coupled with the fouling and the offensive dry run, the game ended with the score 61 to 45 Gentry.

Leading scorer for the Lady ’Hawks was junior Jordan Winn with 19 points followed by Hargiss with 13 points. Although the game resulted in a loss for the Lady ’Hawks, head coach Heather Wade said: “I feel we played one of our best games tonight. And I saw a lot of good things that we can continue to build on.”
