Pea Ridge Historical Society

— The Pea Ridge Historical Society met at 6 p.m. at the Museum on Jan. 25, 2011.

Gus Bradley brought soup and crackers and other members brought additional items.

After a tasty meal, Mary Durand opened the business meeting. Marcia Cothran read the minutes from the October meeting; they were approved.

April 30 was set as the date for the annual Egg Roast. During June and July, there will be a wedding/anniversary photo exhibit at Arvest Bank. Mary Durand asked that we be sure to get photos to her by May.

In March there will be a sesquicentennial celebration of the Battle of Pea Ridge. We discussed partnering with the City of Pea Ridge on an exhibit. We’ll try to have more information at the February meeting.

Jerry Nichols passed out a sheet of programs to consider for 2011. All were asked to circle those they were interested in and return to him. Jerry had also visited with school superintendent Mike Van Dyke to discuss possible interest in the former SEEK Building (formerly Pea Ridge School lunchroom) on the elementary school campus.

The building dates back to the early 1900s and has historical interest for many of us. There will be an opportunity to view the buildingFriday, Jan 28.

Anyone interested in the history of the Pea Ridge area is welcome to attend the next meeting at 6 p.m.
