Santa Claus was scheduled to arrive in Pea Ridge on Dec. 18, bringing candy for all the good boys and girls who came downtown to greet him. Santa was arriving on Pea Ridge’s handsome new fire truck.

“Never say die” could’ve been the motto for Pea Ridge mechanic Don Robins. His garage had been completely destroyed by fire earlier in October, and just one month and one week later, Robins had a brand new garage and his first transmission job.

Equipment, personnel and finances were moving the fledgling Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County closer to the “readiness” posture which would make service available to residents of the area. At a meeting of the board of directors, it was reported thatthe ambulance, which had been purchased, was being prepared and the board voted $500 to John Sivley to be applied toward refurbishing it.

20 Years Ago Dec. 12, 1991 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The Bank of Pea Ridge gave the Pea Ridge School District $10,000 to help achieve accreditation, to enhance teaching skills regarding learning-disabled students and to promote academic achievement by students. About $5,000 of the money would be used for teacher in service training involving learningdisabled children. Another $4,000 of the gift would be used to help the districtmeet what is required to become accredited by the North Central Association, and the remaining $1,000 would be used by the Renaissance project, which provides incentives to students for academic achievement.

The Volunteer Ambulance Service responded to 15 emergency calls in northeast Benton County during November. The 1991 total to date was 177 runs, which exceeded the 1990 total by 13 responses.

10 Years Ago Dec. 12, 2001 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

A design by Codi Hickman, a sixth-grade student at Pea Ridge Middle School, was chosen asNorthwest Arkansas Community College’s annual Christmas card. Her card would be sent to over 600 people in Arkansas and other states.

The city of Garfield passed a 1 cent sales tax levy in a special election which would add $18,000 in revenue over the next year. More than $8,000 of that was budgeted towards the repair of a broken water line on Tall Oaks Road.

Santa Claus was scheduled to visit Pea Ridge and parents were encouraged to bring their children and their cameras. This event was sponsored by the Pea Ridge City Water Department and was held at the emergency services building.
