Construction is on time

— Progress on school construction projects was one item of business to be discussed by Pea Ridge School Board members Tuesday night.

According to both site superintendents, both projects are on time. The concrete pad for the school bus garage behind the Primary School is set and work continues on the 96- by 57-foot building which will hold two bus work bays, a wash bay and offices.

The Intermediate School construction and remodel are on time, according to site manager Bobby Welsh, who praised school officials with great cooperation as the construction continues during school hours.

“Mrs. Sarah Stokes has been great to work with,” Welsh said.

A retaining wall was recently constructed in front of the Head Start building as the dirt was cut away to get the site to the proper elevation.

“To stay on tracks, both jobs are going on at the same time,” Welsh said of both steel and concrete work on the new school building.

“We have two good construction superintendents,” Dr. Roland Smith, interim school superintendent, said. “We want to give the community and the school what they’re paying for.”

Inside the former sixthgrade building, steps have been removed, handrails added and ramps put in for safety of students moving from one section of the building to another, Welsh pointed out.

Other items on the Tuesday agenda included:

◊Master Plan public hearing

◊Resignation of English teacher DeAnna Thompson

◊Recognition of National Board-certified teachers

◊Announcement of a High School sign donation from Arvest Bank

◊Biology Class field trip

◊Consideration of superintendent search brochure

◊Common Core education update

◊Assessed valuation report from Benton County assessor

The next regular School Board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16.
