SEEK needs volunteers

— SEEK stands for Special Experiences Educating Kids and is Pea Ridge’s Gifted and Talented program. The program applies to every grade in the school district. The coordinator, Sandra Thomas, meets with every kindergarten through second-grade student on a regular basis, teaching lessons based on thinking skills. She has a pull-out class with identified students for 2 1/2 hours per week in grades 3-7.

Beginning in eighth grade, the students receive differentiation through one of their core classes, or through AP classes, and meet with Mrs. Thomasonly once a month for lunch. Students can be nominated to be tested for the program by any party having a vested interest in the student, including teachers or parents. The program also has an advisory committee to help evaluate it for improvement.

Mrs. Thomas would liketo have one or two persons from the community serve on this committee along with a few parents and a teachers. The committee meets one time a year to look at aspects of the program that could be changed or improved.

For information, e-mail Sandra Thomas at [email protected].
