— 40 Years Ago Sept. 2, 1971 Pea Ridge Graphic

Enrollment in the Pea Ridge Schools was up to 482 students at the beginning of the second week of the 1971-1972 term. This represented a new high. The previous year’s enrollment was 450 students.

The Blackhawk Booster Club sold season tickets for $5, which were good for all home games, junior high and senior high.

The dress code for Garfield Elementary was as follows:

1) The girls may wear pant-skirts, pant-dresses, culottes or scooter skirts if they are not shorter than mid-thigh.

◊NO shorts or hot pants.

The pantsuits are permitted from Nov. 1 - April 1, if the tops are hip length.

◊NO jeans, sweatshirts or other sloppy dress.

2) The boys may wear shorts in September and May.

30 Years Ago Sept. 2, 1981 Pea Ridge Country Times

The Benton County Quorum Court set a $7.50 housing fee to house municipal prinsoers in the county jail.

In an emergency meeting, the Little Flock City Council voted to petition the Quorum Court to declare the town a subordinate service district and levee a $15 fee per household per year to provide ambulance support by means of a contract with Rogers.

Ray and Sandy Easley announced the birth of a son, Bradley James, on Aug. 25, at Springdale. He was 7 lbs.

1 oz. and 20 inches long.

Grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. James Bernell Spotts of Rogers and Mr. and Mrs.

John Easley of Pea Ridge.

The Blackhawk Booster Club elected new officer for the 1981-1982 sports season.

Those elected were: Randy Easterling, president; Fred Sutton, Sr., vice-president;

Betty Davis, secretary; and Cindy Roe, treasurer.

Pea Ridge Blackhawk coach Kevin Miller believes his 1991 football team has a good chance at the district championship.

Mayor Mary Rogers and members of the Pea Ridge City Council were given copies of petitions containing names of 328 people urging city officials to immediately resign. The petitions were presented to city officials by Hugh Turner, who began circulating the petitions after the council voted to pay $15,000 for a half acre of land on which to put a water tower. In the sprng, the council had paid $50,000 for nearly three acres on which to erect a water tower and on which to relocate several city departments. The half acre was offered to the council by Lester Hall, son of alderman Delores Hall.

The Pea Ridge City Council appointed several new board members. Louise David was appointed to the Library Board to replace Jennifer Jones who resigned after moving to Bella Vista. Dr. Karen Sherman and Steve Bloxham were appointed to the Planning Commission.

Carl Radmacher resigned because of employment conflicts. The appointments brought the commission to six members.

Ann and Jeff Cato of Pea Ridge announced the birth of their son, Harrison Walker, born Aug. 15, 2001, at Willow Creek Women’s Hospital, Johnson.
