40 Years Ago Aug. 19, 1971 Pea Ridge Graphic

Mrs. Sharron Croddy resigned from her position as an elementary teacher. Mrs. Croddy was hired at the time of regular re-hiring of faculty and staff. Her resignation leaves the Pea Ridge School system with two vacancies, one elementary teacher and a librarian.

A fiddlers contest at the Pea Ridge High School Gym was expected to attract fiddlers from three states.

Mrs. John (Martha Hall) Box, chairman of the Dr. Lee O. Greene Memorial Lab Fund gave a $1,000 check to Pea Ridge School Board president Keith Escue for the new science lab at school. 30 Years Ago Aug. 19, 1981 Pea Ridge Country Times

Gene Holt of New Meadowbrook EH Club, Garfield, was installed aspresident of the Benton County Extension Homemakers Council for a two-year term.

Representatives of Columbia Pictures Television were at the Pea Ridge National Military Park looking over the facilities and considering which part, if any, of the announced movie, “The Blue and the Gray,” would be filmed at the park and in this area of the state.

20 Years Ago Aug. 15, 1991 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Police were investigating an incident of vandalism at Pea Ridge City Park where two $350 picnic tables were damaged and would have to be replaced. Police Chief Sam Holcomb said they had juvenile suspects.

He also said it was up to their parents to pay and have the tables replaced.

It had been three or four years since Pea Ridge had seen an act of vandalism like that.

The new Emergency Services building in Garfield was dedicated Aug. 17, 1991.

10 Years Ago Aug. 15, 2001 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The Garfield city council voted to explore the feasibility of local law enforcement in light of recent break-ins and speeding on U.S.

Highway 62. Mayor Bobby Flickinger asked the council to consider the city’s need for a police officer. County budget cuts decreased the amount of patrols by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

The Pea Ridge School Board rejected transfer requests for elementary and middle school students and accepted four high school transfers.

Pea Ridge Elementary School held its Back-to-School Picnic on Aug. 16. The Elementary School PTO served hot dogs, chips and coke. Parents and students were able to meet their teachers in the classroom and turn in their school supplies.
