School begins Monday, drivers beware

— School begins at 8 a.m. Monday.

School officials and city police are preparing for the rush of traffic to the four campuses.

Traffic patterns will be different at Pea Ridge Intermediate School downtown because of the construction, said transportation director Randy Easterling.

Beware of traffic

“The buses and cars will use the same lane,” Easterling said.

Buses are to drop students off behind the cafeteria at 7:25 a.m.

“We’re asking parents to wait until 7:40 to 7:45 a.m. to allow the buses to unload,” Easterling said, adding that cars in line behind buses may not pass the stopped buses.

The evening dismissal will not involve buses and cars in the same lane, he said, as students will be picked up from behind the school and transfered to the Primary School building.

“We ask that drivers traveling in the area of the schools please be patient and be ever watchful for children,” Police Chief Tim Ledbetter said. “Stay off cell phones when driving through school zones.”

It is against the law to operate any hand-held device while driving through school zones, according to Arkansas state statutes.
