Free diagnosis on-site for slow performing computers

— The health of a computer can affect not only

speed and performance, but also data security.

Antivirus programs are readily available, but

many don’t prevent spyware.

For computer owners experiencing sluggish

performance or who suspect a security breach,

Justin Sell at Bella Vista Computers can help.

“The best way to prevent spyware or viruses is

through education and paying attention,” he

said. “It’s good to be wary if it looks different

than you are used to.”

Bella Vista Computers offers free diagnosis to analyze potential problems. Sell also recommends seeking out educational programs like those offered by the Bella Vista Computer Club. Often, it is simpler and cheaper to have an educated technician do the work.

“Owning a computer is like driving a car - you don’t have to know how to tear it apart and rebuild the engine, but you do need to know what the basic components are and how to take care of them,” Sell said.

Spyware is more likely to build up on older machines, slowing performance, Sell said. Computers become infected simply by the user visiting some Web sites or downloading software.

Spyware’s intention is to gather information, add toolbars and install background processes that track behavior and send it to a third party, he said.

“If you think you have a virus or something is not working right, I’ll come out and see what is going on,” Sell said. “I will try to fix everything that is wrong and do it at the best possible price, then give it back to you in the best working condition.”

Bella Vista Computers provides all on-site service for all computer needs, including virusremoval, hardware upgrades, installation and sales of new equipment.

Upgrading to a new operating system will become even more necessary in the next year or two since Microsoft is in the process of replacing Windows XP with Windows 7, Sell said.

“Windows XP will be more vulnerable to viruses as Microsoft will stop providing security updates and things will not be compatible with XP in the future,” Sell said.
