Chuckwagon races slated

JANE, Mo. - The Midwest Chuckwagon Races will be Aug. 12-14 at Rush Springs Ranch, Jane, Mo.

Other activities include a ranch rodeo, extreme cowboy races, moonlight rides, Xtreme mountain obstacle course demonstration, kids games, live music, dancing, horse and mule races, cowboy church, etc. Vendors are welcome. Full schedule on www.rushspringsranch.

Truck and Tractor pull set

SELIGMAN, Mo. - The Seligman Truck and Tractor pull is set for 7 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 20, the Ruby’s Event Park on Missouri Highway 37. Trucks and Tractors from the four-state areas attend this pull. Spring River Valley Pulling Association rules apply. Free benefit concert

BELLA VISTA - An evening of Big Band Music is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, presented by the22-piece Terry Big Band for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Northwest Arkansas. The concert will be held at Riordan Hall and is free but a free will offering will be taken with 100 percent of the proceeds going to CASA of Northwest Arkansas.

The Terry Big Band began life in the 1950s as the Doc Sisco Orchestra based in Springdale. When leader Dr. Friedman Siscoretired from both medicine and music, trumpeter Jack Terry assumed leadership until the mid ‘90s when, due to health problems, his musical career ended. At that time, the current director Ramey Herren picked up the reins.

Brice Hopkins is a valuable member of the band and is the featured male singer. “Moonlight in Vermont”, and Frank Sinatra’s “South of the Border” are two of Brice’s most requested songs.

CASA is a committed group of trained community volunteers who speak on behalf of children in Northwest Arkansas who have come to the attention of the juvenile courts as a result of child abuse or neglect.

Country breakfast set

GARFIELD - The Labor Day “Country Breakfast” will be from 7:30 to 10 a.m.

(U.S. Highway 62). A complete breakfast including sausage, bacon, ham, eggs, hash browns, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and drink is $7 for adults, $4 for children 5-12 and free for children under 5. All proceeds go to NEBCO Emergency Medical Services ALS ambulance service.

Fall train ride planned

SELIGMAN, Mo. - The fall train ride from Seligman to Van Buren, Ark., will be Sunday, Oct. 9.

Arkansas and Missouri railroad and Seligman Chamber of Commerce have this trip twice a year. It will be Arts and Crafts days in Van Buren. This is an all day fun trip. The train will leave Seligman about 7 a.m. and arrive in Van Buren about 11 a.m. It will return to Seligman, Mo., about 6:30 p.m.

Snacks will be served.

The train will travel though the Boston Mountains, cross rivers, cross three high trestles and go though Winslow tunnel.

Passengers will spend about three hours in Van Buren.

Tickets are $80, first class and caboose, $72 for senior 65 and over, $35 for children 12-4, 3 and under is free;

$60 for vintage cars, $54 for senior, $35 for children 12-4.
