Salaries discussed at special meeting

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

School administrators, including district maintenance director James Reeves, will no longer have a negotiated salary because they were put on the school district salary schedule.

The action came during a special Board of Directors meeting Thursday night.

After an executive session to discuss personnel, the board unanimously voted in favor of adjusting Reeves’ salary to begin next school year on step 23 of the district’s salary schedule, at $50,634.30. This will increase Reeves’ pay by $434.30.

According to Superintendent Mike Van Dyke, there is no automatic cost of living increase for employees not on the salary schedule.

During the 2008-2009 school year, Reeves and transportation director Cameron McNabb negotiated a salary at $50,000 each.

McNabb resigned in 2009, leaving Reeves the only employee not on a salary schedule.

In other business, the board:

◊Accepted the resignation of Nikki Van Dyke as junior high cheerleading coach

◊Hired Angela Dutton as a non-certified full-time custodian

◊Hired Jason Vella as a certified high school math teacher.

The next regular meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, May 9.
