Young artists win at ACO

— Nine Pea Ridge Primary and Intermediate school students were honored with awards at the “Celebrate Art” annual art exhibition/competition at the Arts Center of the Ozarks,Springdale.

Open to all students in Benton, Washington, Madison and Carroll counties, the annual art show attracted a record number of entrants from schools across the fourcounty area. Pea Ridges’ nine awards were the most won by any school participating in the event.

“This is our second year in this particular competition and the kids competed well,” John McGee, Pea Ridge art teacher, said.

“Of course, I think we had several more student artists’ work that was worthy of an award. All the kids’ entries drew a lot ofpraise from the exhibition visitors and I am thankful for venues like the ACO that provide outlets for student artists to be able to display their talents.”

Kindergarten student Braxton Taylor was a first place winner with his drawing “Owl.”

Fifth-grader Joyce Glover and second-grader Dillon Brouse won second place awards. Glover’s art was a pen and water drawing of a wildcat with Brouse rendering a dog engaged in a duck hunt in crayons and tempera.

Third places were won by first-grader Elijah Austin and third-grader Nathaniel Ferguson. Austin painted a flock of geese over a pond with Ferguson doing a western picture in pen and water.

Fourth places were won by kindergartener Sarah Messer for her castledrawing, second-grader Blake Hockenberry for his eagle painting, thirdgrader Mazon Harris for his crayon and tempera racoon, and fifth-grader Catherine Hooten for her painting of a wolf.
