Granny’s Quilts of Love

Granny’s Quilts of Love met March 15, 2011, at Mt.

Vernon Presbyterian Church, Pea Ridge. Fifteen members were present.

As of April 1, the number of quilts made for Arkansas Children’s Hospital were 11,533, along with 1,670 caps and 2,938 pillows. Over 300 quilt kits were cut at this meeting.

The recruitment day we had, March 19, was very successful.

Fifteen ladies came out to see what Granny’s Quilts is all about.

Pea Ridge Optimist Club

The Pea Ridge Optimist Club met at 7 a.m. Thursday, April 7, in the Pea Ridge High School Media Room/Library. Sandy Lasater conducted the meeting. There were 14 members present.

Discussion was about getting the flags ready to put out for Memorial Day. The Pea Ridge Optimist Club will place a 3- by 5-feet American Flag on a 10-feet metal pole at the curb on the seven holidays designated: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriots’s Day, Columbus Day and Veteran’s Day. A metal sleeve is installed in the ground 15 feet from the curb/ edge of the road or from the mailbox, in which to place the flag pole. This is a opportunity to show patriotic pride. Subscription to the flag project is a contribution whichwill support community service projects for the youth in the community such as a college scholarship, essay contests and various projects and programs. The Optimist District meeting will be April 29-30 in Little Rock.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the High School cafeteria. A representative from Crystal Bridges will give a presentation on the progress and plans for the facility.

As always, meetings are open to the public and everyone is invited to attend. This will be a good time to learn about Crystal Bridges. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Alice Crabtree at 451-8915.
