Lady Blackhawk track excels in Panther relays

— Turning in perhaps their finest team effort in a number years, the Pea Ridge Lady ‘Hawks captured second place in the Siloam Springs Panther Relays last week. The Lady ’Hawks piled up 98 points to finish well ahead of third-place Gentry which finished with 63 points. Gravette won the girls meet with 143.

The boys trackers scored 25 points in the boys division to finish seventh in the eight-team meet, their best point total of the season to date. Gravette won the meet with 174 points with Harrison finishing at the bottom with 10 points.

Senior distance runner Kimberly Cribbs sparked the girls team as she captured both the 800 (2:51.60) and 1,600 ( 7:17.18) meter races as well as running a leg on the ’Hawks’ first place 4 by 800-meter relay. Cribbs was joined by Megan Harris, Taylor Sherman and Niven on the relay which took the title in 12:35.61.

The other first place individual winner was Sherman who captured first in the 3,200 meter run with a season’s best time 15:44.

Harris was also a high scorer in the meet, taking two seconds in the 1,600 (7:22.98) and 3,200 (16:48.0) runs.

The top sprinter for the Lady ’Hawks was Deborah Beard who posted a season’s best time of 13.85 to finish fourth. Beard also anchored the fourth place 4 by 100- relay team which recorded a time of 1:00.88. Beard was joined by Emily Sweaza, Felicia Walker and Miranda Patrick on the team.

Lacey King scored in both the 200 and 400 sprint events, taking fifth place in both races. King recorded a time of 31.74 in the 200 and turned in a time of 1:16.73 in the 400.

Other scorers in the meet included: Walker, fifth in the 100 (14.23); Patrick, sixth in the 200 (36.41); Bailey Lessenberry, sixth in the 400 (1:17.26); and Claudia Contreas, third in the 800 (2:55.71); and the 4 by 400-meter relay team of Cribbs, Sweaza, Nivens and Lessonberry which finished second in 5:33.1.

In the boys division, Colton Holtgrewe and Rico Schneider led the team with third-place finishes. Holtgrewe was third in the 3,200 in 12:42 while Schnedier was the third best discus thrower with a 101.6 effort.

The other scorers in the boys events were Jase Sharp, eighth in the shot put (35-7); Seth Henry, seventh in the 1,600 (5:56.7); and Cole Holliday, eighth in the 3,200 (14:32.1). Dakota Coan was the ’Hawks’ top runner in the 100, finishing 13th in 12.07 and was ninth in the long jump (17-0). Daniel Beard was the ’Hawks’ best in the 200 (25.81) with Tyler Norman having the best mark in the 400, finishing 11th in 1:12.08.

The ’Hawks’ 4 by 400 relay was fifth place (Norman, Coan, Killman, Roughton) in 5:00.74 with the 4 by 800 team (Holtgrewe, Oldenbecken, Henry, Holiday) taking fourth in 10:38.88.

Final scoring for the girls meet was: Gravette 143, Pea Ridge 98, Gentry 63, Siloam Springs 52, Prairie Grove 49, Harrison 32 and Huntsville 28.

Final scoring for the boys meet: Gravette 174, Siloam Springs 99, Gentry 96, Farmington 88, Prairie Grove 80, Huntsville 69, Pea Ridge 25 and Harrison 10.
