Junior Lady ’Hawks score well

— The Pea Ridge junior girls track team scored a seasonal high in points scored as they took fifth place in the 15 team Eureka Springs Junior High Invitational last week. The junior boys had some improvement as they notched a 10th place finish in the boys division.

The girls were led by a third place finish by Mikaela Cochran in the long jump with the lanky eighth grader scoring a season’s best 15-1. Cochran placed fourth in the discus throw with a 66-10 heave and also took a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash (30.60). The eighth-grader then anchored the second, third place and fourth places 4 by 100, 4 by 400 meter and 4 by 800 relay teams, respectively. The 4 by 100 unit recorded a time of 57.6 with legs also being run by Ashtyn Mondy, Taylor Winn and Pitts.

The 4 by 400 team of Cochran, Pitts, Rilee Patrick and AnnaMorgan competed the four-lap race in 4:52.3 with the 4 by 800 team of Cochran, Patrick, Morgan and Kealy Skaggs completing their two-mile distance in 11:45.9.

The other two girls who scored in the individual running events were Morgan and Patrick, both fourth place finishes. Morgans’ time in the 800 was 2:46.90 while Patrick’s 1,600 time was 6:08.10.

Rounding out the ’Hawks individual scoring was Abbye Coans’ seventh place in the shot put with a 29-5 effort.

The ’Hawks were led in the 100 with Winns’ time of 14.60, good for 10th place. Sydney Barnes was the top ’Hawk in the 400, finishing 10th in 1:16.8, with Kelsie Merritt handling the hurdling chores, running the 100 hurdles in 22.13 and the 300 hurdles in 1:03.3, both 13th places.

Final girls’ team scores were: Bentonville Lincoln 141, Berryville 108, Green Forest 107, Kingston 53, Pea Ridge 45, Decatur 36, Elkins 33, Rogers Kirksey 31, Alpena 22, Mountainburg 19,Western Grove 11, Eureka Springs 3 and Omaha 2.

Shane Ivy sparked the boys team, earning ribbons in three events. Ivy was sixth in both the 100 and 200 dashes in times of 12.60 and 26.30 as well as anchoring the 4 by 400-meter relay team to a seventh place finish in 4:27.5.

The other runners on the relay were Travis Bradshaw, Blake Sheppard and Dunlap.

The boy ’Hawks had double placers in the 1,600 meter run as well as the discus throw to round out their scoring. Bradshaw and Sheppard finished seventh and eighth in the 1,600 run in 5:37.1 and 5:5:46.5, respectively. Dakota Cannaday was fourth in the discus (91-4) with Thomas Lammey taking the sixth spot in 85-0.

Final team boys’ scores were: Elkins 111, Decatur 102, Green Forest 87, Bentonville Lincoln 75, Berryville 55, Omaha 27, Lead Hill 26, Alpena 24, Mountainburg 20, Haas Hall 19, Pea Ridge 19, Kingston 16, Jasper 15, Eureka Springs 9 and Western Grove 4.
