Jr. tracksters open season

— The junior girl and boys track and field Blackhawks opened their season two weeks ago in the Gravette Junior Lion Invitational.

The boys finished 10th in the 15-team affair with the girls coming in 13th. Logan Rose was the lone ’Hawk athlete to score in two individual events. The lanky athlete was sixth in the 100-meter dash in 12.83, also taking third in the high jump with a 5’2” leap.

Two other ’Hawk boys scored individually led by Justin Stamps who captured third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:31.08. The other individual scorer was Lloyd Kalberloh who was sixth best in the long jump with a 16’7” leap.

The ’Hawks’ 4x400-meter relay team was just edged out of the scoring, finishing ninth in 4:26.62. Shane Ivy, Bradshaw, Kalberloh and Rose each ran legs on the team.

Rilee Patrick, the Lady ’Hawks’ top scorer from a year ago, was the top finisher in the running events with a third place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:25.97. Mikhaela Cochrane was the leader in the field events with s 14’4” leap in the long jump which also landed her in third place. The duo are both eighth-graders.

The other individual scorer in the meet was Taylor Winn who took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 28’0”.

Both Lady ’Hawks’ relay teams scored with the 4x100 team taking eighth while the 4x400 team raced to a seventh-place finish. The 4x100 team was made up of Winn, Cochrane, Anna Morganand Pitts with the 4x400 team made up of Patrick, Morgan, Pitts and Cochrane.

Girls team scores were: Green Forest 93, Siloam Springs 82, Bentonville Lincoln 74, Huntsville 56,Jay 55, Gravette 52, Shiloh 41, Gentry 34, Decatur 32, Will Rogers 24, Elkins 22, Prairie Grove 21, Pea Ridge 16, Eureka Springs 5 and Lincoln 4.

Boys teams scores were: Gravette 143, Siloam Springs 85, Jay 62, Bentonville Lincoln 62, Shiloh 51, Gentry 48, Green Forest 46, Elkins 46, Decatur 25, Pea Ridge 16, Huntsville 16, Miami 8 Lincoln 6, Prairie Grove 6 and Eureka Springs 3.
