Special meeting called to hire teachers

— Two teachers were hired at special School Board meeting Thursday evening prior to the board members going in executive session with superintendent Mike Van Dyke for 45 minutes. The board took no action when it reconvened.

The 5 p.m. meeting, called by email by Van Dyke at 1:57 p.m., was attended by board members Jenny Woods, Joshua Ramsey and Darin Wright. It was in open session for six minutes before retiring into closed session. After reconvening, Wood asked for a motion to adjourn, the motion was given and seconded and the board adjourned. When asked what was discussed in closed session, Van Dyke said: “hiring.”

The board accepted the resignation of Joneen Copeland, a fourth-grade teacher, and hired Lora Beth Ayres and Candie Carney, both for the Intermediate School.

Van Dyke said the special meeting was called for the hiring to hire teacher applicants before other area school boards met and hired them.

The regular April board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday in the high school media center. Items on the agenda include consideration of out--of-state bus trips, a construction update, the June 30, 2010, legislative audit and personnel, including resignations and hiring.
