— The Pea Ridge Historical Society met at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the museum.

Jerry Nichols welcomed everyone and opened the program. The subject was Jack Lasater, a Pea Ridge native, in World War II. Jerry did the power point presentation of photos while Marcia Cothran described them and gave some background information. The photos hadbeen taken from 1942-1945 showing Jack and friends in training at Camp Barkeley, Texas, to be tank and jeep mechanics. There were photos of shipping out of New York Harbor, then in France, Holland, Belgium, Germany and London, England. Jack was at the Battle of the Bulge which occurred Dec. 16, 1944, to Jan. 25, 1945. They were fighting Hitler’s troops to help free Europe. There were 19,000 Americans killed and it was the bloodiest battlefought in World War II. Jack did survive and returned to Pea Ridge to live out the rest of his life.

Scott Turner donated a book of this photo collection to the museum. This program reminded us all of the sacrifice many made to protect our freedom. We are grateful to all who have served.
