Boyd earns 2nd place

— Fifth-grader Emily Boyd finished in second place after being named as one of 12 national finalists in the Artsonia/Dick Blick National Artist of the Week.

Boyd painted a detail of an American flag and the art was displayed on the Artsonia national Web site for four days last week, along with the other 11 finalists chosen from around the United States. The winning artist was from Longmont, Colo., with the other finalists coming from Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, Illinois, New Jersey and even Australia.

After being nominated by the administrators of the Artsonia online gallery, viewers from around the globe could and did castvotes for their favorite art work. Voting was open to anyone with access to a computer. Pea Ridge Primary and Intermediate school students have been nominated six times for the national award over the past two years with one student, Brianna Foster, winning the national award last November.

The local elementary schools online gallery currently has on display over 3,000 new works of art from the current school year, tops in the state as well as the nation. Overall, the local gallery is ranked in the number one overall position in the state and is currently ranked third overall in the entire United States.

Local school supporters are urged to log on and view the artwork at www.artsonia.com/pearidge2.
