COMMUNITY EVENTS

Pea Ridge cleanup

The 2010 annual fall cleanup will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 14-17, and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

Dumpsters will be located at the city property behind Village Hardware.

Participants need to bring a form of identification and proof of city residency, such as a current paid water bill.

The city will not provide curbside pickup.

Leaves and brush will be collected at the Fire Department substation on North Arkansas Highway 94 across from Givens Place subdivision.

Drug pick-up event set

The Pea Ridge Police Department will host a one-day drug pick-up event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at City Hall.

AREA EVENTS

Ham and bean dinner

POWELL, Mo. - The Powell Historical Preservation Society will host an Old Fashioned Ham and Bean Feed at 5 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Albert E. Brumley Park (the Hill and Hollow) at Powell, Mo. The menu will consist of ham and beans hot out of an old iron kettle, cornbread, desserts and drink by donation.

There will be two awesome musical groups for your enjoyment. First will be the Sugar Tree Bluegrass from Miller, Mo. What a wonderful group with such musical talent. Second will be the Powell Sisters from Bentonville. These girls are something to see and hear.

If you have not heard these groups play, then this is the night to clap your hands and tap your feet.

Bring lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of good food and free music.

Last but not least, there will be four fall door prizes to sign up for. Plus, there will be an opportunity to buy a raffle ticket for the Metal Elk welcome sign, designed by metal artist Diana Evans of Wheaton, Mo. The winning name will be drawn during the evening of the ham and bean feed.

All proceeds will go for the rehab and maintenance of the Historic Powell Bridge, soon to be a walking bridge only. Parking for the evening is free.

Concordia Retirement Community open house

BELLA VISTA - Concordia Retirement Community will host an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Train ride to Van Buren

SELIGMAN, Mo. - The Seligman to Van Buren train ride will be Saturday, Oct. 9. Ride to beautiful Van Buren and enjoy the Arts and Crafts days. The train will leave Seligman at 7 a.m.

and arrive in Van Buren approximately 11 a.m. It will depart Van Buren at 2 p.m.

and arrive back in Seligman approximately 6:30 p.m.

First class tickets are $80 each, seniors are $72, Caboose tickets are $80 each, seniors $72, Vintage car tickets are $60 each, seniors $54. Children ages 4-12 $35, under 4 free.
