Turkey Shoot, Rib Cook-Off tradition continues

— Hundreds of participants are expected at the 17th annual Northeast Benton County Volunteer Fire Department and EMS Turkey Shoot and Rib Cook-Off fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 25. The event is held at NEBCO Fire Station 1 and Community Center at U.S. Highway 62 and S. Wimpy Jones Road in Garfield.

Activities run from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. and will featurethe annual Turkey Shoot with shotgun, claybird, poker and archery contests; plus the Championship Rib Cook-Off, with up to 25 teams competing for trophies.

There will be a day-long raffle and live and silent auctions.

Raffle items include a 40-inch LCD HDTV, a chain saw, numerous gift certificates to area restaurants, gift baskets and a large tool set. Auction items include autographed Dallas Cowboysand Razorback football helmets, lodging and dinner for two plus limo service to Cherokee Casino in Siloam Springs and personal TV/DVD players.

Other activities include live music, bingo, games and prizes for the kids, kids face painting, a Daisy BB Gun range and all-day food concessions.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will be on site for those wishing to donate, along with NEBCO EMTs andparamedics giving free blood pressure checks.

Lunch is a big part of the event and will be served from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. with ribs, pulled pork, chicken tenders, baked beans, coleslaw, desert and drink; $9 for adults, $5 for children, 10 and under.
