Jean Crawford

Jean Crawford, 75, of West Fork, died Saturday, Sept. 4, in Fayetteville.

She had a lifelong passion for reading, often nicknaming family and friends after characters from her favorite novels. In her youth, Jean was a “ham” participating in pie suppers and Community Theater in the Mineral Springs area.

As a young adult, she worked for the Ozark Theatre on College Avenue and then with the Washington County Health Department. She became a stayat-home mother upon the birth of her son, Shane, and remained so until her younger daughter Krista was in fifth grade. During her husband’s Navy service, she maintained the home fires, exercising her “Irish frugality,” in South Carolina; Little Rock; and Key West, Fla. Uponreturning to northwest Arkansas she went to work for the Soil Conservation Service.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; a daughter, Krista Crawford-Mathis and her husband, John Mathis, of Roanoke, Va.;

a son, Shane Crawford of West Fork; a sister, Wanda Buckner and her husband, Bob Buckner, of Avoca; a brother, Talbert Malone, his wife, Patty, of Farmington, and their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Farmer, her husband, Heath, and their children; a grandson, Mason Crawford of Fayetteville and mother of Mason, Barbara McClelland; two sisters in-law, Rosalee Kelly, her husband David Kelly and their children, Joel and Erika, her husband Dale and Georgeanne Crawford and one brother-in-law, George Crawford, Fayetteville; and many nieces andnephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Porter, Gerald Reiff, Bill Smith, Charlie Underhill, Donnie Underhill and Mason Crawford.

Visitataion was from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at the Staybridge Suites in Fayetteville.

Graveside service were at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Mineral Springs Cemetery under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.

Helen Roena Hickman

Helen Roena Hickman, 92, of Rogers, died Sept.

2, in Bentonville. She wasborn Feb.

22, 1918, in Gravette, to George H. and Eva Mae True Sooter.

She was a homemaker anda member of Colonial Baptist Church in Rogers. She moved to Rogers in 1999 from Minden, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Tandy Hickman; two brothers, Russell and Alden Sooter; and a sister, Iva Sooter.

Survivors include a son, William Otha Hickman of Woden, Texas; two daughters, Virginia H. McCabe of Bella Vista and Anna Marie Faris of New Market, Va.;

four sisters, Reba Murphy of Rogers, Vivian Dean of Pea Ridge, Louise Riley and her husband, Roy, of Rogers, Alma Brown of Rogers;

a brother, Donald Sooter and his wife, Thelma, of Rogers; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-greatgrandchildren.

Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5 at Benton County Funeral Home.

Services were at 11 a.m.

Monday at Colonial Baptist Church with pastor Claude Slate officiating.

Graveside services will be at the Garden of Memory Cemetery, Minden, La., at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, officiated by the Rev. Leland Crawford.

Services are under the direction of Benton County Funeral Home of downtown Rogers.

Robert Jackson

The Rev. Robert Jackson, 79, of Washburn, Mo., formerly of Bella Vista, died Friday, Sept. 3, in Springfield, Mo.

Arrangements are pending by Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th, Rogers.

Alan P. Lapp

Alan P. Lapp, 57, of Bonner Springs, Kan., died Saturday, Sept. 4, at Circleof Life Hospice Home in Springdale. He was born July 22, 1953, in Lyons, N.Y., to Deward and Margaret Lapp.

He was a 1971 graduate of Stebbins High School in Dayton, Ohio. He ran cross country for Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and then graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He made his home in Colorado, where he raised his family and enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking and the outdoors. He later moved to Kansas where he worked in engineering for Cortrol Process Systems. He was a loving father and loyal friend, admired for his everlasting positive attitude and adventurous spirit. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2007 and mother in 2008.

Survivors include two daughters, Kari Heuston and her husband, Jim, of Oceanside, Calif., and Cassi Lapp of Pea Ridge; their mother, Judy Lapp, of Pea Ridge; two brothers, Duane Lapp of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and David Lapp of Dayton and their families;

one grandson, Sean Alan Heuston; and many dear friends across the country.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are by Stockdale Funeral Services.

Bob Scott

Bob Scott, 75, of Pea Ridge, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born Sept. 26, 1934, at Vega, Texas, to William Marion Scott and Vonley Belle Scroggins Scott.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired as a supervisor at Bentonville City Water Department. Heenjoyed family and church cook outs. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Robin Michelle Scott; two sisters, Mattie Sue Green and an infant sister, Willie Mae Scott;

two brothers, Marion Clyde Scott and an infant, Billy Jack Scott.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Scott of Pea Ridge; two sons, Bobby Scott and his wife, Paula, of Rogers, Mike Scott of Kansas, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Julie Foster and her husband, Stanley, of Pea Ridge; a stepson, Donnie Parsons and his wife, Lisa, of Hiwasse; a brother, Loyd Scott and his wife, Joy, of Mineral Springs, Ark.;

two sisters, Peggy Price and Lovena Foster both of Amarillo, Texas; two stepsisters, Charlotte Vick of Okmulgee, Okla., and Fran Burger of Grapevine, Texas.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was set for 5-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept.

7, at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Rogers with pastor Noel Cwenar officiating.

Cremation was to follow.

Kandra Diane Sperling

Kandra Diane Sperling, 50, of Bella Vista died Aug. 31. She was born Oct. 17, 1959, in Yakima, Wash., to Wayne Porter and Marge Newman Porter.

She moved to Cassville, Mo., as a young lady and for the last 30 years was a resident of northwest Arkansas. Sperling worked from 1998 to 2003 as the editor of the Our Town section of The Morning News. In her position with the newspaper, she was also able to pursue her love for photography. She was also a member of the Bella Vista Congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Porter.

Survivors include her husband, Pete Sperling of Bella Vista; her mother, Marge Rector of Bella Vista; a daughter, Melanie Merkling and her husband, Ross, of Rogers; stepdaughters, Jennifer McNamara and her husband, John, of Carterville, Mo., and Nicole Simon and her husband, Brett, of Rogers; brothers, Joe Porter and Don Porter, both of Monett, Mo., Dan Porter of Pineville, Mo., and Bruce Porter of Bentonville;

a sister, Karen Allen of Cassville, Mo.; a grandson, Carter Merkling of Rogers;

and step-grandchildren, Taylor and Teagon Simon of Rogers.; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept.

4, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Bentonville with Herb Wight officiating.

Arrangements are by Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Tommie Al Yeargain Sr.

Tommie A. Yeargain Sr., 88, of Jane, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 27, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born on Oct. 18, 1921, in Jane, to Curt Lee and Ollie Mae (Burns) Yeargain.

He lived all of his life in Jane. He married the love of his life, Treva Mae Stephens on Sept. 9, 1943.

He served as the Eastern County commissioner from 1983 to 1985 and from 1987 to 1992, worked at the ASCS office in Anderson, Mo., and was a livestock trader for several years.

He enjoyed coon hunting, trained and sold jumpingmules.

Yeargain farmed and ranched all of his life on the State of Missouri Certified Century Farm where he was born and raised. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 42 years, Treva Mae Yeargain on Jan. 25, 1986;

a daughter, Tammy Gay Yeargain; a sister, Lillian; and a nephew, Edward Lee.

Survivors include three children, Gwen Williams of Nashville, Tenn., Gayle Bequette and her husband, Paul, and Tom Yeargain Jr., all of Jane; five grandchildren, Shelton Hank Williams III, Angela Dawn Yeargain and ?? Yeargain, Spike and Catlin Bequette;

four great-grandchildren;

extended family Kim, Kyle and Krystal Hubbard and Jim Yaus; and many otherfamily, friends and neighbors.

Visitation was from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jane.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jane with the Rev. Hank Gorman officiating.

Burial followed in the Jane Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, the Jane Cemetery or the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jane.
