— Pea Ridge Military Park to host activities

Pea Ridge Military Park will host a number of activities in September.

Guided tours via car begin Thursday at the park.

The two-hour tour allows visitors to follow a ranger in their own vehicle to various stops in the park, where they will hear about history. The tours will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Sept. 9-12, Sept. 16-19 and Sept. 23-25.

“Bike with a Ranger” will give participants an opportunity to learn about the battle and watch wildlife, and children can earn aJunior Ranger badge. Tours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. The route includes a few steep hills. Participants will be required to wear a helmet and provide their own bicycle.

The park has five adult and five child helmets available.

Participants are advised to bring drinking water. The program is set for Sept. 11, 18 and 25.

Artillery demonstrations are scheduled for Saturday at 10 and 11 a.m., 1, 2 and 3 p.m.

Hikes of the Leetown Battlefield are scheduled for Sept. 11 and 18. The two-hour hike begins at tour stop 4 at 8:30 a.m. Participants shouldprior to hike.

“Good Men All: America’s Civil War Soldier” will be shown in the Visitor Center auditorium on Sept. 11. This program explores the lives of Union and Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. The one-hour program is set for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“Pea Ridge Commanders” is a one-hour program in the Visitor Center auditorium on Sept. 18. It explores the lives of some of the commanding officers of the battle.
