Drug pickup planned

— Working with the state Attorney’s General Office and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, the Pea Ridge Police Department will host a one-day drug pick-up event at City Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25.

“In an attempt to eliminate prescription drug abuse, we are working with these agencies in a collaborative effort to properly dispose of these drugs,” Ledbetter said.

“Theft of and reselling prescription drugs is fairly widespread,” Ledbetter said.

Outdated or unwanted prescription drugs may be turned in.

“It’s against the law to use anybody else’s prescription,” he said. “We will turn them in to be disposed of in a safe and environmentally-friendly manner.”

It is also illegal to have pills in a bottle other than the originalcontainer.

“We’ve had instances where juveniles have taken drugs from the family medicine cabinet and sold them to other juveniles,” Ledbetter said.
