THE TIMES LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Quilters say thanks

A big thank you to the community of Pea Ridge and surrounding area for helping Granny’s Quilts of Love seventh annual dinner and auction to be a huge success.

We really appreciate your continued help and support over the past years.

Thank you for allowing us to continue to make many quilts for the precious sick children at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. God bless all of you.

Season passes valuable

My family and I have purchased a family pass for Pea Ridge home ball games for the last few years. When I read in the paper last week that the school had decided not to offer them this year I could not believe it.

I have heard three different reasons why they are not being offered: 1. Low interest;

2. Too many people just walking in unpaid; and 3. Coaches voted against it.

Well, I know for a fact number three is false and the first two still do not make sense.

If there was low interest it should easy to control who has a pass. When you buy a family pass, each person is given a card. If they did not have the card with them I feel sure it would be easy to cross reference to the list that theschool has for the four family members that were listed when the pass was bought. If people are taking advantage of this and walking in unpaid, then shame on us for not putting procedures in place to stop it. If, however, we could not figure out procedures to stop this, then shame on us for not asking for help to figure it out.

I guess I was wrong to think the family pass was to help families better afford to go watch kids participate and represent themselves, family and community. My kids have played basketball only for Pea Ridge but my family has attended home football, volleyball, baseball and softball games to support the young men and woman whorepresent our community in athletics as well as in cheer and band.

The decision to stop this program will force families to make hard choices that will affect all of our kids who participate in our sports program as well as the sports programs themselves. What family goes to a game and leaves without spending money at the concession stand? It doesn’t happen often.

I really hope the administration will reconsider this decision and decide to make the passes available. If you agree, be sure to call the administration office and let them know how you feel.
