Gateway annual picnic

GATEWAY - Music will resound through Gateway Park Labor Day weekend at the annual Gateway Picnic set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4.

Southern Raised, a bluegrass family band out of Hurley, Mo., is scheduled to perform. Musical guest Katie Anderson, daughter of Sherry Dean, will also perform.

The picnic is open everyone in the area and surrounding areas; admission is free.

The picnic, sponsored by the city, will include hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad and baked beans. Residents may bring a potluck dessert if desired.

Labor Day country breakfast

GARFIELD - The Labor Day country breakfast fundraiser, sponsored by VAS Ambulance Service and the Northeast Benton County Fire/EMS Department, will be from 7 to 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at the NEBCO Community Center in Garfield.

Breakfast will include homemade biscuits, gravy, pancakes, bacon, ham, sausage, hash browns, eggs, fruit cup and drinks.

Price is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, children under 5 are free.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the operation of the newly established advanced life support ambulance service serving Avoca, Garfield and Gateway.

VFW Golf Tourney

Pea Ridge VFW Post 8109 will hold a golf tournament starting at 5 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 9, at Big Sugar Golf Course in Pea Ridge.

The nine hole four-man scramble will benefit the VFW’s community projects. Cost is $30 per person. Donations are also accepted and volunteers being sought to help with the event. Prizes will be offered.

Pea Ridge cleanup

The 2010 annual fall cleanup will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 14-17, and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

Dumpsters will be located at the city property behind Village Hardware.

Participants need to bring a form of identification and proof of city residency, such as a current paid water bill.

The city will not provide curbside pickup.

Leaves and brush will be collected at the Fire Department substation on North Arkansas Highway 94 across from Givens Place subdivision.
