Dulcimer Workshop

“The Mountain Dulcimer in the Ozarks,” a hands-on workshop for people interested in learning to play the dulcimer, will be presented by Bob Madison from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov.

6, at the museum. Madison will discuss dulcimer origins, repertoire and migration to Arkansas. Participants will have an opportunity to learn the “noter and drone” style of playing. The workshop is free.

Civil War Program and Booksigning

David Wilson Atwood will discuss his novel, Where the Mockingbird Sang, during a program and booksigning at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the museum.

Where the Mockingbird Sang is based on the diary of Evans Atwood, a Springdale physician who served with the 15th Arkansas Infantry, CSA, during theCivil War. Copies of the book will be available for purchase for $16.99 plus tax.

Tontitown Polenta Smear

The ninth annual Tontitown Polenta Smear will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at the St. Joseph Parish Hall in Tontitown.

A celebration of Tontitown history and heritage, the event features photo exhibits, genealogy information, and free samples of the traditional Italian dish of polenta (cornmeal mush) and umedo (sauce). The Tontitown Historical Museum and the Shiloh Museum will be copying old photos and paper items during the afternoon. The event is free. For more information, call the Shiloh Museum at 750-8165.

Madison County Mysteries

Joy Russell, president of the Madison County Genealogical and Historical Society, will present “Madison County Mysteries, Solved and Unsolved,” at noon Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the museum.

Photo Identification Group

The Shiloh Museum’s Photo Identification Group will meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the museum to continue identifying people, places and events in northwest Arkansas photos taken over the last 40 years.

Nature Photography Program

Nature photographer Tim Ernst will present a slide show featuring images from his latest book, Arkansas Autumn, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the museum. Ernst willalso share photos from his recent trip to Iceland. A variety of Ernst’s photo books will be available for sale.

Wild Birds Program

Local wild bird experts Joe Neal and Lynn Sciumbato will be featured during “Holidays are for the Birds!”, Saturday, Dec. 4, at the museum. At 11 a.m., Neal will present a slide program on winter birds in northwest Arkansas.

He will also be available to sign copies of his new book, The Birdside Baptist, a collection of nature essays. The book is available in the Shiloh Museum store for $16. At 1 p.m., Sciumbato will discuss her work as a wildlife rehabilitator.

She will be accompanied by wild bird residents of Morning Star Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
