The 1970 Pea Ridge High School Homecoming Queen was Sheila Snow.

She was pictured making her way in a white dress through a muddy field at the Pea Bowl. The parade was canceled due to rain, but the Blackhawks went on to win a 14-0 victory over Mountainburg.

A petition was circulated in Pea Ridge to place the purchase of property by the Pea Ridge City Council before a vote of the citizens. The petition claimed the purchase was not in the best interest of the citizens and proceedings of the council approving the measure did not comply with the requirements of state laws governing the acquisition of real estate by municipalities.

A plaque reading “To Leon Vansandt in appreciation for promoting eight annual bluegrass music shows for Our Farm, Inc., A Home for Children,” was formally presented to Vansandt by Kent May, president of Our Farm, in the office of the Pea Ridge Country Times.

The Pea Ridge Country Times asked the Bank of Pea Ridge to give anyone a Susan B. Anthony silver dollar if their birthday fell between Oct. 30 and Nov. 5, 1900-1920, or Oct. 30 to Nov.

Pea Ridge Alderman Joe Hart announced that he would host a public meeting to answer questions concerning the annexation.

Hart was also a candidate for mayor and said: “Anyone interested in annexation should be there, but particularly the citizens.”

Staff Sgt. Jimmy D. Henson graduated from a non-commissioned officer leadership school. He studied techniques of leadership, management and supervision. He was an aerospace propulsion technician at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. He is the son of Don and Alice Henson of Pea Ridge.

Thomas O’Dell of Avoca served on the Avoca Council for four years, but wanted to continue to serve the community so he decided to run for mayor. Avoca’s then mayor, Gene Nipp, resigned for health reasons and O’Dell was asked to serve as interim mayor, but decided to wait until the election.

Pea Ridge High School earned the most coveted award at the northwest Arkansas BEST competition held at Bentonville High School. They won the BEST award, given to the team that accomplished the greatest school and community interest in engineering, science and technology.
