Mule jump profitable as well as popular

— The 22nd annual Mule Jump was exceptionally well attended and profited by more than $7,000, after all the expenses were counted.

“It’s amazing,” said Mule Jump committee chairman Nathan See, who said the costs for sponsoring the event were $20,822 and expenses were $13,438.20.

“This year, the city had to provide prize money, otherwise we would have made more than $10,000,” See said.

Expenses included paying for materials, renting radios, renting port-a-potties, souvenirs in the souvenir booth, prizes, trophies and advertising, according to city records.

Several local organizations worked together to make the event a success, See said, adding: “We couldn’t have done it without all our volunteers.”

Members of the Women’s Business Association manned the ticket booths. “The WBA is a trusted organization,” See said, adding that the committee paid the group $300. “That’s not lost money, it’s money that will go back into the community.”

“There was the Cannonball 4-H that helped out a lot; some teenagers from Mr. Holman’s civics’ class ran the inflatables to get extra credit.

“They (the volunteers) were really good at what they did.

There is no way I could do it by myself. You’ve got to have a committee. I’m glad I had the committee I had,” See said. “They did above and beyond.”MULE JUMP SPONSORS
