Hart wants to end city speed traps

— Claiming there are speed traps in the city, mayoral candidate Col. Joe Hart has requested to be put on this month’s City Council agenda. The Pea Ridge City Council regular meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at City Hall.

“Oh, I think these speed traps,” Hart said Tuesday when asked about why he wants to address the City Council. “Doesn’t it seem odd to you that when Weston Street was two lanes with no curbs and very few lines it was 30 miles per hour and now, it’s three lanes and it’s 25 miles per hour all the way from (Arkansas) Highway 94 to (Arkansas Highway) 72?”

“I just think that’s odd,” Hart said, claiming that the speed traps will deter business from the city.

In other business, the Council will address two items settling disputes with companies that worked on Weston Street. City attorney Howard Slinkard willpresent a proposal for a settlement with Hutchens Construction regarding Weston Street as well as a settlement with Douglas Fredeen of FKF, the original engineer for the project.

The Council is also expected to consider the Municipal service charge and League defense program.

Other items on the agenda include:

◊Accepting Wood Street as a city street;

◊Waiving competitive bidding for DECCO;

◊Aline Denman, request to rezone from A-1 to R-1;

The meeting is open to the public.
