— The Pea Ridge Historical Society met at 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at the museum.

Jerry Nichols opened the meeting. The program was on harness equipment and horse drawn farm implements and was given by Bob Prophet and Marcia Cothran.

There were photos shown by power point of horses and mules in working settings. There was also a full set of harness belong ing to Imogene Lasater that was displayed on a wooden horse. Prophet explained individual parts. He was in the mounted calvary in World War II. Horses were used then and went where motorized vehicles could not go.

Mary Durand opened the business meeting at 6:35 p.m. Cothran read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved. Gus Bradley gave the treasurer’s report. Karen Murphy made a motion to approve, motion was seconded and carried.

It was noted that Jackie and Freida Crabtree had done a temporary family display in one of the display cases and how nice it was.

There was a homes tour committee set up of Cothran, Durand and BillieHickman. The Christmas Tour of Homes will be Dec. 5. The Historical Society members will have a Christmas dinner at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

Margaret Cheek showed the framed pencil drawing of Miss Nanny Roberts and a framed description of her contribution to the Pea Ridge Elementary system.

All were pleased with how nice it looked. Nichols and Cheek were to meet with school superintendent Mike Van Dyke, Primary School principal Keith Martin and Primary Schoollibrarian Mrs. Rebecca Allen to discuss display of these items.

Nichols noted that the first-grade teachers requested a visit to the museum for students again this year. Cothran made a motion to have Durand order 250 pencils to pass out to these students, motion was seconded and carried.

Anyone interested in the history of the Pea Ridge area is welcome to attend the next meeting at 6 p.m.
