Lady Bug Dress Shop sale included all sizes nylon gowns and housecoats priced from $2.99 to $10.99.

A newspaper was started at Cave Springs called the Cave Springs Scene.

It was a weekly tabloid published by Earle and Billie Jines of Pea Ridge who were also publishers of the Pea Ridge Graphic.

The paper reached readers on Thursdays. Billie Jines, editor as well as publisher, lived in Cave Springs until the age of 6.

A rocket-launch countdown took place in the Wendt-Sonis parking lot in Rogers and firing technicians were Don West and his 12-year-old son, Vincent. An audience of six stood on the sidelines with straining eyes and abated breath. The rocket was a two-stage Omega, assembled by the Wests and commanding officer aboard was Edgar, the West family’s pet hamster. Edgar returned to land a little scared but safely.

The fourth Navy ship to be named after this state, Navy Cruiser USS Arkansas, was commissioned at Pier 7, Norfolk Naval Base, Oct. 18. It was the U.S.

Navy’s newest nuclearpowered cruiser. SenatorDale Bumpers was the principal speaker at the ceremony.

Minimum wage under federal law increased to $3.35 per hour Jan. 1, 1981.

Those not covered by federal law complied with state law under which the minimum wage increased from $2.55 to $2.70 per hour Jan. 1.

The Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce approved a motion supporting the completion of the sewer project for the city and urged all citizens to lend support to its early completion.

Pea Ridge school’s FHA and FBLA baked cookies and sent Christmas cards to troops stations in SaudiArabia during Operation Desert Shield.

For citizens in the area the Pea Ridge County TIMES asked the Bank of Pea Ridge to give a new Susan B. Anthony Dollar to anyone whose birth date fell between Nov. 20 and Nov. 26, 1880 to 1920 inclusive or Nov. 20 and Nov. 26, 1955.

The total civilian labor force in Arkansas, which numbered 1,001,600 in September, increased 3,300 above the August level of 998,300, and was up 22,500 from the September 1979 total of 979,100. Total unemployment was down 7,600 over the month, but was 21,000 above the September 1979 level.

Mrs. Foss’ class from Pea Ridge Elementary took a field trip through the town Nov. 10. The students toured local businesses such as Ace Hardware, Everdale Garden and D & J Archery shop to learn about business, money and workplace safety rules.

The Garfield City Council met Tuesday, Nov. 14, to discuss budget ideas. Its one-cent sales tax proposal had failed by three votes, 47 to 44 in the general election, Nov.

7. At the time, Garfield’s population numbers listed more than 300 residents, thus, less than one-third voted on the tax issue.
