Remember supporters

A grateful thank you to the Pea Ridge community and friends who attended, supported and participated in the D.A.S.H. to Remember race held at the Ryan Mondy T-ball field on Saturday, Oct. 23. We sincerely appreciate the runners, volunteers, sponsors and members of the Pea Ridge Police Department who helped make Saturday morning’s race a success.

Proceeds from the D.A.S.H. race will fund the third annual Ryan Mondy Scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior who is a cancer patient, survivor, or sibling from Arkansas. The scholarship will be awarded in the Spring of 2011.

Just the facts

Dear editor,

Procrastination attacked and overcame me!

That is my excuse for not having written sooner.

From the onset, I have been following the mayoral pieces written by the editor of the Pea Ridge Times with great interest.

I do not live nor have ever lived in Pea Ridge. I live just across the Arkansas state line in Missouri.

I have a Pea Ridge P.O.

Box, bank, eat and shop in Pea Ridge. My father was mayor of Miami, Okla., for 16 years and the last four I was his secretary.

Having attended many council meetings, I relish in small town politics.

As I began to read the interview questions and answers I thought, “WOW! How can aneditor of a newspaper be biased?” So, I reread the questions and answers again. I was looking for a “slip up” on the editor’s part because everyone has an opinion and is biased in their thinking.

But no. I was pleasantly surprised even in the following articles about the candidates that not once did I read any partiality in the writings. I was left to come to my own conclusions about each man.

A mayor ought to have the “gift” of administration while also listening to the people then doing what he can to achieve the goals he and the people have set down, within the parameters of the government (federal and state) guidelines, rules and regulations, and available moneys. He/sheshould be a person with high moral standards that have been tested and proven throughout their lifetime. He should seek the will of the people and not his own or his family’s agenda. And he ought to have attended council meetings as much as his schedule would allow thereby showing his interest in his city’s workings.

“Thank you” to the editor of this great small town newspaper. It is the best I have read in many years. It brings to mind the old saying, “Just the facts ma’am. Just the facts.” This newspaper does just that. Thank you for being an editor with integrity!
