THE TIMES LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Flames engulfing the 2004 Ford Escape reached toward the ceiling of the carport of the home of Orville and Maureen Haas at 3540 Hayden Road. Smoke billowed into the sky. Pea Ridge firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after noon Monday. Firefighter John Bobholz quickly extinguished the flames as other firefighters manned the pump and checked the house for signs of fire. The vehicle was destroyed but the home was saved. “You are a blessing,” Mrs. Haas told the firefighters.

Arkansas response

In response to Pete Rathmell’s letter last week: Do all of us dumb Arkies a favor and go back to where ever you came from.

Defining Conservatives

Democrats ask, “Why won’t Conservatives be bipartisan and compromise?” Here’s why: Conservatives revere the Declaration of Independence, which declares our unalienable individual rights are endowed by the Creator;

whereas Liberals say the state gives or denies human rights.

Conservatives proclaim that man is made in the image of God, and that life begins at conception. Thus creationists protect the rights of pre-born babies. Humanists proclaim that by survival-of-the-fittest, we are merely evolved animals so aborting defenseless babies is OK.

Conservatives contend that society is rooted in traditional families, while liberals want to redefine families.

Conservatives believe in hard work and ownership of private property, but socialists believe the state owns property and productivity to redistribute wealth to the nonproductive.

Conservatives defend the Constitution’s original intent, however liberals want to replace the Constitution with Socialism.

People who want bipartisan compromise do not understand the underlying issues.

Pea Ridge Fire Department says thanks!

The Pea Ridge Fire Department says a big “thanks” to the community for their support during the annual MDA Fill the Boot Drive held May 7, 2010. For the past several years, the Pea Ridge Fire Department has worked with the Razorback Chapter of the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) to raise money for MDA research and support through different fundraisers.

The donations have increased by leaps and bounds over the past years. Three years ago the Pea Ridge Fire Department started participating in the MDA Fill the Boot Drive which involvesfiremen standing at a local intersection with fire boots asking for donations. This year the PRFD was able to raise $2,252.30 at the Boot Drive, 100 percent of which will go directly to the MDA.

Thank you to everyone who was able to donate and make this possible. Thanks to Metropolitan Bank staff for offering to count the money and provide the check to the MDA, as well as providing snacks for the firemen during the fundraiser. Thank you to Arvest Bank, Community First Bank, Metropolitan Bank and the Pea Ridge Water Department for letting us place a boot at their businesses during the week prior to the fundraiser which helped us obtain the early donations. Lastly, thanks to Jim’s Razorback Pizza for the pizza donation which kept the guys going during the fourhour fundraiser.

Thanks, RYAN WALKER Pea Ridge Fire Department Pea Ridge, Ark.
