Peggy June Dalton

Peggy June Dalton, 70, of Rogers, Ark., died May 6.

She was born in New Deal,Texas.

Dalton gave up an offer to model for a small clothing chain to marry the love of her life when shewas only 14. She married Harlon on Jan. 2, 1954, only because there was no one to marry them on New Year’s Day. Harlon was a free spirit who raced horses for a living. His career took her across the country to New York, Toronto, Miami, D.C., Albuquerque and Hot Springs, before settling in northwest Arkansas.

He became a commercial contractor and built their dream home, where they lived and celebrated almost 40 years of a loving marriage, before he passed in December of 1993.

Dalton was an artist who had a passion for painting still life and nature. She was an avid reader who challenged herself daily with word puzzles and believed in the importance of always learning and keeping the mind challenged.

She supported many charities, including disabled veterans. She was a stayat-home mother until her children were grown. She worked for H&R Block in the early 1980s, then became a tax null on her own. She continued to work as a bookkeeper for the family business up until her passing.

Married life took her on a nomadic ride from spontaneous trips to the ocean, summer in Canada, to the night life of New York City. She was a wide-eyed, small town girl who was thrust into the fast-pacedlimelight of the big city at a very early age. While a dream life for some, she preferred the simple life of having her children fill her kitchen for snacks, conversation and laughter.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Rogers and a woman of strong faith. Her favorite quote was “Give me roses while I live.” Her roses were her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlon, in 1993.
