Movie Gallery to close its doors

— Movie Gallery in Pea Ridge will close its doors to the public for good. The store , located at 150 S. Curtis Ave., offers movie rentals as well as tanning booths.

A customer, when asking about a movie being advertised as in the store by May 4, was told the store was closing and would be holding a liquidation sale in a couple of weeks and no new movies were being shipped there.

The manager at the Pea Ridge store referred questions to a media hotline, which referred all media questions to a Web site.

Movie Gallery, Inc., announce Feb. 3 it filed voluntary petitions for Chapter 11 reorganization in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Easter District of Virginia, Richmond Division. The restructuring includes immediate liquidationand closure of approximately 760 stores in the U.S.

According to the Web site and media hotline, existing points and benefits will remain active as long as the store is offering rentals. Items are asked to be returned in a reasonable time frame to other stores in the area, or if that’s not practical, a prepaid shipping envelope will be provided. Customers are expected to pay any outstanding fees.
