Yard of the Season contest slated

The deadline to nominate yards for the springtime Yard of the Season contest is Wednesday, May 12. To nominate a yard, call Farmers Insurance at 451-0488 or Arvest Bank at 451-8155. The contest is sponsored by the Pea Ridge Women’s Business Association.

The winner will receive at $50 gift certificate to From the Ground Up nursery, a sign for the yard and a picture in The Times.

The WBA is a sponsor and supporter of the City of Pea Ridge beautification projects and the Pea Ridge Community Scholarship Fund. Meetings are at 11:30 a.m. the fourth Thursday of the month in the conference room at Arvest Bank.

Farmers’ Market

The Pea Ridge farmers’ market will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursdays at the Emergency Buildingentrance off Slack Street.

Avoca Clean up

AVOCA - The town of Avoca will hold a spring cleanup Saturday, May 15.

Come for coffee, juice and donuts at 8:30 a.m., then split into teams to pick up trash along town streets from 9 to 11 a.m. There will be a $50 cash drawing at 11 a.m. Must be present for still working to win.

Blood Drive planned

The PRHS chapter of the National Honor Society and The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, May 17, in the high school gym lobby. Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate.

Community picnic

AVOCA - The Avoca community picnic will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at the town park.

Garfield School reunion planned

GARFIELD - The eighth Garfield School reunion is set for June 25-26.

From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 25, a casual gathering will be held in the Garfield Elementary Gym, with snacks provided.

Beginning at 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, June 26, the group will meet for a luncheon at the NEBCO Community Room in Garfield.

Reservations will be confirmed by sending by an RSVP, accompanied by $15 for each person attending.

Please confirm by Tuesday, June 1, to ensure an accurate head count. Makechecks payable to Garfield School Reunion and mail to Dorothy Williams, 13451 Ventris Rd., Garfield, AR 72732.

Participants are asked to bring old photos and annuals for the memorabilia table to share memories.

Coal Gap reunion slated

Mark your calendar and plan to attend the 13th Coal Gap Reunion at the Pea Ridge Community Room from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 29. Anyone who lived in the Glade, Pine Log, Garfield or surrounding areas is welcome and if you attended one of those one-room schools, plan to share memories. Bring some food and spend the day. The community room is air conditioned, and tables and chairs will be provided for a day of enjoyment with old friends.

AREA EVENTS

10th Annual Show-Me Model-T Ford Tour

The 10th Annual Show-Me Model T Ford tour will be held May 13-15 in Rogers. The tour will be based out of the Country Inn and Suites and will feature 49 cars from 10 different states.

The cars are original restored Model-Ts with 4-cylinder, 20-horsepower motors.

The average speed is 30-35 miles per hour. The Model-T was made from 1908 to 1927, with over 15 million cars manufactured. It is estimated that there are still over 400,000 Model-Ts worldwide.

The Rogers Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a picnic for the tour at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Frisco Park. The cars will be on display and the public is welcome.

The tour will head to Fayetteville on Thursday, first visiting the Headquarters House and then having lunch at Hog Haus Brewery, before touring the Arkansas Air Museum at Drake Field. Dinner that night will be at Famous Dave’s.

On Friday, the tour visits the craftsmen of Terra Studios. After lunch at Terra, the tour will stop at War Eagle Mill. Returning to Rogers, the tour will stop at the Daisy AirRifle Museum before going to Monte Ne Inn Chicken for dinner.

Saturday the cars will drive to Pea Ridge National Military Park and then to Bella Vista for lunch at the Country Club. On the return trip the tour will visit the Museum of Native American History and Walton’s Five and Dime Museum in Bentonville. Saturday evening there will be a final dinner together at Texas Land and Cattle.

Fincher 5K and youth run

ROGERS - The 13th annual Kendrick Fincher Youth Run will be Saturday, May 15, at the Pinnacle Promenade.

Commemorating the life of Kendrick Fincher of Rogers, the event features runs for kids ages kindergarten through 14. The event will immediately follow the Fincher 5K run, set for 7:30 a.m. The youth run will consist of a half-mile run for younger kids and a mile walk/run for older kids.

There is no cost for kids to participate in the event.

All pre-registered runners are guaranteed a free T-shirt along with a goodie bag.

There will also be games and activities for the runners to participate in after the race as well as refreshments.
