Bathroom bid approved

— Construction will begin on the new bathrooms at City Park, pending approval from city attorney Howard Slinkard.

At the regular meeting of thePea Ridge Parks Commission Tuesday, April 27, the group went over “bids, part two,” Michael Ogburn, Parks chairman, said.

The original deadline for submitted bids for the construction of the new bathrooms was March 23. Those bids were rejected, however, and the bidding process had to start again from the beginning.

“Howard determined the specs were too generic,” Ogburn said.

“We had to be really specific.”

After receiving eight bids the first time, the group considered six bids turned in this time. Ogburn said only two companies followed the directions the commission presented and itemized the bids. One of the two was the lowest priced bid of all.

When Slinkard approves, Construmarr, Inc.

of Bentonville, with a bid of $41,750, will be awarded the job.

Other bids submitted were from Danny Robinson, Ken Castoe, Meridian Construction Management, Jerry Harner and Clinard Construction.

“In the next couple of weeks we hope to get everything finalized,” Mayor Jackie Crabtree said.

The commission will present the bid to the City Council at the meeting May 18 to approve the impact fee disbursement.

In other business, the group discussed the possibility of a skate park in Pea Ridge and an overhaul ofthe horseshoe pits at City Park.

“They’re not going over well, but nobody comes to the meetings anyway to say what they think,” Ogburn said.

The group discussed making the existing horseshoe pits a tennis court and basketball court, then putting in new pits where the current basketball court is.

The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 25 at City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
