BENTON COUNTY — Scholarship available

Public high school seniors in Benton County have an opportunity to apply for a larger scholarship for college expenses. The Democratic Party expanded its scholarship from $675 to $1,175 for use in technical schools, colleges or universities in the fall of 2010.

In addition, the deadline for applying has been extended because of snow days. The new deadline is Friday, April 9. By that date applicants enrolled in any Benton County school district may complete the form available in their respective high school counselor’s office, submit records and write a 300-500 word essay on the topic “Should there be public funding of political campaigns?”

After the deadline for applications, a jury of three prominent citizens will selectthe recipient. The Benton County Democratic Party provides this scholarship as part of its support of an educated citizenry.

A note from the band

The middle and high school spring band concert will be at 7 p.m. May 4 in the senior high gym.

The High School band trip to Kansas City for the Worlds of Fun Music Festival is set for May 8 and 9.

The Jazz Band performance at NWA Live on Stage will be at 1:30 p.m. May 16 at the Arend Arts Center in Bentonville.

The band banquet and awards ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 20, in the high school cafeteria.

The senior high band will perform at the Bella Vista Memorial Day Service Monday, May 31.
