‘Expo’se businesses

— The Spring Business Expo is slated to provide an opportunity for owners of small businesses to showcase their company’s products or services and meet potential customers.

Visitors to the Expo will have the opportunity to learn about local businesses, meet Dr. Rhonda Higgins, new doctor in town, and win door prizes.

Set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 17, the Spring Expo sponsored by the Regional Chamber of Commerce Serving Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri will be in the gym at Pea Ridge High School, West Pickens Road.

“The Regional Chamber is here to help promote small businesses that are members of the chamber.

In doing so, we hope people would think to shop local and support the local businesses which supports the local economy,” John Lasater, acting president for the chamber, said.

“The consumer can put a face with a name which adds a lot of value ... There are a lot of local businesses you might not know exist. You can find out a lot more about your local area and meet people first hand.”

There is a $1 admission fee which will be donated to the Pea Ridge Historical Society, which operates the Pea Ridge Museum.

Concessions are available with proceeds going to the Pea Ridge Future Farmers of America.

“We’re going to have a health theme,” Lasater said, adding that there will be blood pressure checks, cholesterol checks and visit a smoke house teaching about fire safety. “We hope there will be more awareness about people’s health.”

Lasater said businesses featured at this year’s event include Carroll Electric, Village Home Center, Castle Rental, Avon and many others.

Carroll Electric Cooperative Service will have a booth demonstrating ways to save energy and a high voltage demonstration explaining how their system works, the causes of power outages and showing how critical it is to be extremely cautious around power lines.

“You don’t always see electricity.

It’s there, but you don’t always see it,” Clay Starkey, Carroll Electric public relations officer, said.

In addition to the Expo, The TIMES is publishing a special publication for the Chamber featuring advertisements and information about each business.

Lasater said the publication is an excellent tool to keep information about a business in the public eye for the entire year.

Persons need not be present to win door prizes, Lasater said.
