Granny’s Quilts of Love

Granny’s Quilts of Love met at 9:30 a.m.

Feb. 16 at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church in Pea Ridge. Mary Margaret Webb conducted the meeting. There were 13 members present.

The total number of quilts made as of the February meeting is 9,531, along with 1,775 pillows and 1,409 hats. All items are donated to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and our local community. Last year over 300,000 children went through ACH.

There was discussion about the menu for our dinner in August, auction items and a monetary donation to Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church for use of their facilities for our meetings.

New Meadowbrook Extension Homemakers Club

Rheta Van Doren called the meeting to order then led all in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Two guests were introduced: Katie Rieff, president of the County Extension Homemakers Club, and Betty Weston, a member of the Brightwater Extension Club.

Rheta made the happy announcement that she will soon become a great-grandmother.

Betty Carter gave the devotions on faith which was complete trust in a another person or God. She used 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we live by believing, not seeing.” Even though our life may be hard, God is good and always with us. Roxie Geddie will give next month’s devotions.

The secretary’s report was accepted as read. Rheta gave the treasurer’s report. Ten members and two guests answered rollcall by telling what they do to prevent falls in the home.

There was no news from VAS. The NEBCO chili cook-off was a success. The contestants were in the fire station and the community center was filled with tables which were full of happy eaters most of the day. The chili was gone shortly after 2 p.m.

It was again announced that Curtain Calls will be held on Friday, March 26, featuring crafts this year. Refreshments and viewing is at 9:45 a.m. and the program is at 10 a.m. It will be held at the Extension Office auditorium.

Karen Launderville will celebrate her birthday on March 28. She received a gift bag and Happy Birthday was sung.

During coffee break, Rheta shared some funnies with the group. She also showed a baby quilt which will be donated to a needy mother. Betty Phillips showed a crocheted blanket she made for her grandson’s new daughter.

Katie passed out prescription cards to the members. Betty Weston gave an informative talk on osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis may be cause by smoking, alcohol, not exercising and menopause. To help prevent it, a good diet, exercise and vitamins are important.

Work day will be at 10 a.m. March 24.

There is one quilt being tied, another ready to be sewed and as always squares to be cut out. Bring a sack lunch and plan to stay until around 1 p.m.

The meeting was closed with the Homemaker’s Creed. Next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at the Garfield Baptist Church. All ladies of the area are invited to attend.
