Birthdays are for giving

— Birthday parties for 9-year old boys are usually boisterous affairs with lots of food, laughter and presents.

But there were no presents for Landon Allison at his party.

Landon didn’t object. In fact, it was just what he planned.

29, enjoyed his party of fun with friends, noise, laughter and food. But there were no presents. At least, not for him.

Landon asked his friends to bring money to donate to Haiti. When the party ended, Landon was able to send $200 to the United Nations Foundation Help the UN Help Haiti Fund.

“It was my mom’s idea, but I really liked it,” Landon said, adding that he saw the newsabout the earthquake in Haiti and knew he wanted to give.

Landon, the son of Keithand knew he wanted to give.

Landon, the son of Keith and Jennifer Allison, is a third-grader at Pea Ridge Intermediate School. With uncommon maturity and selflessness for a youngster, he said he had all he needed; he wanted to use his birthday as an opportunity to give to others.

Landon and his friends went to a movie, “The Spy Next Door,” and ate at thePromenade Mall food court But, he said he was glad to be able to send the money to Haiti to help others.

Asked what he really needed, Landon said: “Home.”
