An incident that occurred near the end of a Pea Ridge - Farmington football game in September, ended with a hung jury in the case of the State of Arkansas vs. H.T.

Buchanon of Farmington in Benton County Circuit Court. Buchanon was charged with assaulting an officer of the law.

Frank Price of Pea Ridge was one of the 10 District winners of Arkansas who competed for the state fiddlers championship title in Fort Smith.

John Lasater joined the First Federal Savings and Loan staff, and was to be the manager of the proposed branch in PeaRidge, expected to open later that year. For the past six years, he had been employed by the Bank of Pea Ridge.

Shrum’s Meat Market in Battlefield Center in Pea Ridge closed the evening of March 4. Negotiations for the reopening under new ownership was underway.

Spring sports was not offered at Pea Ridge High School - no track, baseball, etc. It was reported that the football and basketball players were continuing their physical exercises, building strength and muscles for the next year’s competition.

Pea Ridge Volunteer Fire Chief Jerry Collinswanted a few good elderly volunteers to form the Senior Volunteer Fireman’s Corps. The seniors’ responsibilities were primarily preparing equipment for the next fire call.

The home of Franklin and Sandy Walker, just north of Pea Ridge, burned to the ground Monday. No one was at the home when the fire started.

Pea Ridge High School principal Tom Chew submitted his resignation to the Pea Ridge School Board, citing personal reasons for his decision.

Neighbors on Weston Street complained that trash was constantly filling the dumpster at thePea Ridge Day Memorial Park, even though the Little League had not used the park all winter.

The sign proclaiming a $500 fine didn’t seem to stop people from dumping trash.

Pea Ridge Middle School principal Anita Frevert received a letter of non renewal of her contract but the issue was tabled at the School Board meeting.

An ongoing investigation conducted by the 19th Judicial District Drug Task Force resulted in the arrest of four people at the Hidalgo Restaurant in Avoca. The arrest resulted in $7,900 of methamphetamine and $1,000 in cocaine.
