Parks OKs new restrooms

— The Pea Ridge Parks Commission has two new members.

Crystal and Joseph Carlson were sworn in by Mayor Jackie Crabtree at the meeting Tuesday, Feb. 23, at City Hall.

Carlson is an office assistant originally from Texas. Her husband, Joseph, works for Wal-Mart ISD and is a soldier in the Arkansas National Guard. They have three children, ages 9, 5 and 3, and havelived in Pea Ridge for four and a half years.

In other business, Nathan See, Pea Ridge Street Department employee, presented the final plan for the new restroom facilities at City Park.

“We can’t do both, the money’s not there,” See said, referring to the bathroom project and new walking trails at the park.

See estimates the restroom project will cost between $40,000 and $50,000.

“It’ll be nice, whenever it’s done it will be an eye catcher,” See said.

The street department will tear down the existing facility before the new construction begins.

Chairman Michael Ogburn motioned to approve the plan and begin accepting bids. The group passed the motion unanimously.

Requests for bids will be published beginning March 3. The deadline for bids is 5 p.m. Monday, March 22.

The next meeting of the Parks Commission will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at City Hall. The agenda includes selecting a bid for the project.
