FILING OPENS FOR ELECTIONS

— Any person wanting to be placed on the ballot at the Preferential Primary / Nonpartisan Judicial General Election on May 18 will need to first contact the Political Party in which they wish to run as a candidate.

They will need to complete a Candidate Affidavit of Eligibility, Party Pledge and Party Certificate and pay the filing fee to the party during the filing time which begins Monday, March 1 at noon and ends Monday, March 8, at noon.

To finish the filing process the candidate will then need to file those documents with the County Clerk and complete a Political Practices Pledge which must also be done during the filing time.

Ballot positions for primary election:

FEDERAL: U.S. Senate - 1 Position, U.S.House of Representatives - District 3 (File with Secretary of State)

STATE: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer of State, Auditor of State, Attorney General and Commissioner of State Lands, State Senate - District 35, State House of Representatives - Districts 89, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 & 100, Prosecuting Attorney - District 19-West. (File with Secretary of State)

JUDICIAL: Supreme Court - Associate Justice Positions 3 & 6, Court of Appeals - District 3 Position (File with Secretary of State) (No Circuit or District Judges are up for election in Benton County this year)

Candidates for Federal, State or Judicial Offices are asked to contact the Secretary of State for more information on filing.

COUNTY: Assessor, Circuit Clerk, Coroner, County Clerk, Judge, Surveyor, Sheriff, Tax Collector & Treasurer, Justice of the Peace - Districts 1 - 13, Constable - Districts 1 - 13. (File with County Clerk)

To file as an Independent candidate for county or township office:

Independent candidates will appear on the ballot at the General Election on Nov.

2, 2010.

Any person wanting to file as an Independent candidate must file an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Notice of Candidacy and Political Practices Pledge with the County Clerk during the same filing time as the Political Party Candidates (March 1 at noon - March 8 at noon). Candidates must also file a petition containing the number of valid signatures required for the position in which they are filing. Petitions may be circulated now and must be filed with the County Clerk by noon May 1.
