Dinner funds scholars

— Pies have sold for as much as $400 at the annual chili supper and pie auction sponsored by the Pea Ridge Women’s Business Association.

The annual chili supper and pie auction is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 6, with the pie auction set to begin at 6:15 p.m. The event is held in the cafeteria at Pea Ridge High School.

“The pie auction is the big money,” Lori Rogers, president of the WBA, said. “It’s what brings in the biggestamount of money. Ladies bake and donate the pies.”

The WBA was formed nine years ago and began hosting the chili supper and pie auction the following year. Usually four to six students receive money from the proceeds of the event, Rogers said.

“Last year we gave $3,000 to the Pea Ridge Scholarship Fund,” Rogers said.

Other officers include Angela Nuno, secretary, and Jennifer Carney, treasurer.

Member Kim Brown heads the chili cooking.

“It’s a fun social event where the community gets together and has friendly bidding wars over their favorite pies,” Rogers said.

“Prices escalate knowing the money is going to fund scholarships for our Pea Ridge students.”

This year, the band Journey On, will provide entertainment.

Dinner includes chili, crackers, Fritos and cheese and a drink. Drinks will be coffee and tea.
